Indian cuisine is one of the most complex in the world. Filled with heady spices and wonderful aromas, it varies from region to region and is equally delicious everywhere. Indian food never leaves anyone indifferent; people either love it or hate it. If you’re in the “love it” camp, below are some of my favourite Indian restaurants in Montreal.

Star of India
Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, Star of India serves what is probably the best butter chicken and naan bread in town in a friendly atmosphere with great service. It’s definitely my favourite butter chicken in Montreal!

Atma
Located in trendy Plateau Mont-Royal, Atma is a fine dining establishment offering all your favourite Indian dishes as well as some house specialties in a modern and funky décor.

Bombay Mahal
A favourite among locals, Bombay Mahal offers a great span of Indian cuisine from north to south. Located in multicultural Parc Extension, their menu is extensive and the prices reasonable. They are vegetarian-friendly and BYOW.

Golden Curry House
Blink and you might miss this tiny spot on busy Saint-Laurent Street. Golden Curry House is a well-hidden gem that offers fantastic food in an unpretentious setting. Try the tandoori specialties or the biryanis.

Malhi Sweets
Hidden on Jarry Street a little out of the way is one of the best Indian restaurants in Montreal. Malhi Sweets Punjabi cuisine is authentic, delicious, affordable and served in an unpretentious yet welcoming dining room.

Guru – Bistro Indien
A modern bistro offering a Punjabi-style cuisine, Guru is also famous for its fusion dishes that combine East Indian flavours with Montreal classics, resulting in original creations such as the butter chicken poutine or the tandoori chicken club sandwich served on their homemade naan bread.

Restaurant Gandhi
Gandhi is an elegant restaurant located on cobblestoned Saint-Paul Street in charming Old Montreal. The scent of warm spices and the lure of Indian music is enough to send you on a virtual voyage to India via some of their delicious dishes and great variety of homemade breads.
