It’s that time of year again, time to look back at 2012 and reminisce, time for introspection, time to make lists and resolutions. I thought I’d do a quick overview of some of my favourite Montreal eats of 2012. Most of them are new but some of them are just new-to-me. It has been quite the year, filled with delicious moments. I hope 2013 will be just as delicious. Bon appétit!

]Some of my favourite meals of 2012 were casual ones, some of them being nothing but delicious snacks while others didn’t even have a physical space.

From the top left corner: Satay Brothers, Le Mile-Ex, Nouveau Palais, Bevo, JulietaLa boîte aux huîtres, Blackstrap BBQ, Coq Asian (a bahn mi delivery service that is no longer in service),

My 2012 favourite Montreal food festivals

We had a pretty good year when it comes to food festivals and events in Montreal. Some of my favourites included Omnivore, the food trucks at the Just for Laughs festival, Je t’aime en chocolat and Oysterfest. I’m looking forward to visiting them again in 2013.

Favourite sweet spots

My 2012 favourite Montreal sweet spots

My favourite sweet discovery of 2012 was without a doubt Olivier Potier. I have fallen in love numerous times with every bite of every pastry piece I’ve tasted there. 2012 was also the year of the doughnut and both Chez Boris and Saint Donuts make remarkable sweet treats. The bougatsa (sweet phyllo pastry filled with custard) at Melina phyllo bar is delicious and definitely worth the calories.

Favourite cookbooks

My 2012 favourite cookbooks

Ok so I cheated a bit on this last category. I have listed 5 books here and only 3 of them are from Montreal. The other 2 are some of my favourites of the year and I thought I might not want to limit myself to Montreal in this category. All of these make me very happy 🙂

From the left: Small Plates & Sweet Treats by Aran Goyoaga, Les Touilleurs, Jerusalem by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi, Toqué, Les desserts de Patrice by Patrice Demers.

Tell me dear readers, what were some of your most memorable 2012 Montreal eats?
