It’s that time of year again! Time to step out into the heat and stretch your winter-worn muscles into a virtual sun salutation that will last a few weeks.

I am always fascinated by how strongly Montrealers are attracted by a spot of sunshine and some warmth. When I first moved here from a warm(er) country, I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to sit outside when it was barely 15 degrees. Twenty winters later, I understand perfectly well and am the first one out there just as soon as it starts getting nice.

The Montreal restaurant scene caters plenty to this sun-worshiping tendency most of us living here have. However, a nice terrasse (yes, in Montreal it’s terrasse not terrace), courtyard or garden is often not enough to make me want to linger in any one particular spot. What keeps me going back and staying are beautiful surroundings as well as a great bite to eat or an exceptional cocktail or iced drink.

Below is a map of some of my favourite Montreal terrasses where one can have a beautiful cocktail or glass of wine as well as eat well. There’s no excuse not to be eating al fresco anymore, no matter what Montreal neighbourhood you may find yourself in.
