Last Friday night I made my way over to that stretch of St Laurent street that is so cool they won’t let you pass unless you’re dressed the part 🙂 I headed for the newest restaurant on that cool block, Wood35 Restaurant & Bar. Wood35 has been open for 5 weeks now and occupies the old Med Grill space on the corner of St Laurent and Milton. It is the latest newborn of the Montreal Gourmet group who own Bice, Cavalli, Otto, Kabana and Primadonna. This group knows how to do high-end restaurant but this latest one is meant to be more casual and low key while still offering the freshest and best quality ingredients. The menu is Italian in spirit but still offers more casual fare like burgers and ribs.
We were seated at a bright window-side table on that hot Friday night and were told not to order anything since the manager Danny was going to take care of us. And then the food started coming… I cannot recall the last time I ate that much! Everything was delicious, some things better than others like the delicious tuna tartare and the seafood linguine, two of my favourites. By the time the melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon arrived, I was so full I couldn’t really enjoy it! But yes, I of course ordered dessert too! I didn’t include a picture of it because by that time it was too dark already and the picture doesn’t do it justice but it was a rocky road trifle with tiny brownie squares, homemade marshmallows, caramelized pecans, chocolate ganache and maple mousse – decadent!
Here are a few pictures of my Wood35 dinner. If you find yourself on that stretch of street, you should definitely stop by!
My next post will probably come to you from somewhere in Europe. I will be leaving next week and visiting 8 cities in 3 weeks! Copenhagen and Barcelona first then I’m taking a Mediterranean cruise which will include the following cities: Palma de Mallorca, La Valletta (Malta), Palermo (Sicily), Rome and Savona. I will then fly to London where I will attend Food Blogger Connect 2011 where I am also a speaker. It’s funny because I started this blog last year just as I was about to leave for FBC10 and here I am, a whole year later, still at it and loving it. If you have any recommendations for any of these cities, don’t hesitate to share them with me in the comments below. I will try and post while I’m away but please don’t hold it against me if I don’t! I promise to share all my good food discoveries with you when I get back!
