There have been a few changes since my last post on one of my favourite restaurants in town, Madre. Last week, a handful of bloggers and friends were invited to the re-opening of Madre restaurant. After a couple of weeks of renovations, the restaurant is now re-opened with a new menu and a bring-your-own wine policy. The menu is still as interesting as ever and includes my perennial favourites at this Mario Navarrete Jr restaurant: the ceviche and the sweet potato bread pudding! The small space has a fresh coat of paint, some new decor elements and huge black boards adorning one of the walls with the menu written on them. The kitchen is visible through glass doors and the staff is still as friendly and knowledgeable as ever. We were served hors-d’œuvres portions of some of the things available on the new menu, including the ceviche, the papas a la huancaina, the salmon tartare and the seared fish with avocado mousseline. The evening ended with chef Navarrete carving and dishing out a pork belly in the middle of the dining room and passionately speaking of his love for food and for feeding people.
So grab a bottle of wine and head over to Madre for a meal you won’t soon forget. And don’t worry friends, Madre will still be serving brunch on Sundays, which, in my opinion, is one of the best brunches in the city.
