Olive + Gourmando’s new cookbook!

I believe that I must have been one of Olive et Gourmando’s first clients back when they first opened in 1998. Flash forward 20+ years and I am still one of their most enthusiastic fans. I remember walking in the very first time I visited and feeling the magic in the air. Whatever “it” was, they had it from the start and it’s never faded.

They have been at the top of my favourite Montreal restaurants for years. I must have written about them a hundred times, taken dozens of photos on their pretty window sills, recommended them to countless visitors and Montrealers alike, and waited in line in front of their famous Old Montreal façade in a myriad of different weather situations a million times. I have dragged friends and family there and everyone with no exception has fallen in love with O+G’s magical spirit.

Olive + Gourmando: The Cookbook

This ode to one of my favourite Montreal eateries comes on the heels of a very special book by Dyan Solomon, the owner and chef behind Olive. Olive + Gourmando: The Cookbook is a reflection of all those years of just very good food, period. Food I want to eat all the time and never grow tired of. I am never not craving salads and fresh, crunchy veggies and Olive always delivers beautiful and bountiful vegetable-centric dishes along with scrumptious sandwiches, flaky homemade pastries, and seasonal specials. I have my O+G favourites, of course, like the cold soba noodle salad, the housemade ricotta, sweet or savoury, the poached egg on your face panino (my favourite!), the granola, the Valrhona chocolate brioche and too many seasonal dishes to list. It’s torture having to pick what to eat on any particular visit. Dyan reveals all the O+G recipes in this beautiful book that has instantly become a favourite. I just got it two days ago but I have already gone through it meticulously several times and bookmarked the recipes I want to try first. Will it be the famous fudgey brownies? Or the hearty granola? Or perhaps I can try making the chocolate brioche? Or the mushroom mac and cheese! Have you tasted the Olive mac and cheese? It’s so divinely decadent and rich!

Olive + Gourmando: The cookbook is published by KO Éditions and is now available at all your favourite bookstores in French and English. Buy it. I promise you’ll love it.
