My Montreal Coffee Map: a list of the best independent coffee houses in the city

Montreal's best independent coffee shops

Ain’t that the truth!

That’s the sign hanging outside Cafe Medina in Vancouver and those are words I live by. I’m a bit of a coffee snob, not the kind who will ask a barista what temperature he brews his coffee at or how often he roasts his beans because that’s just annoying. But I will complain if my coffee’s too hot or not hot enough or if the beans are overroasted or if the foam on my latte is not the perfect consistency. I will almost never drink filter coffee and a bad cup of coffee will ruin my day like nothing else can.

When I travel, exploring a city’s independent coffee shops is up there on my list just as much as eating out, going to museums and visiting monuments. I usually have a list of coffee shops to visit and I will go out of my way to do so. I have been getting quite a few emails from visitors to Montreal who share this love of coffee, which is why I decided to create this “coffee map” so you can find the best spot to indulge your caffeine addiction whatever part of Montreal you find yourself in.

Below is a quick overview of the list of coffee shops but you will find a description of every place on the map so have fun exploring! And don’t hesitate to leave me a comment with your favourite café if it’s not already on the list.

Thank you for this list. Many on here are among my favorites. I live right around the corner from Neve and it’s my go-to spot. However, you must check out Cafe Rico (Rachel, corner Boyer). Not only a great cafe where you can sit for hours, but they have (in my opinion) the best fair trade beans in the city! And probably the most affordable ($10 for 500g).

Ouep ouep ouep. Content d’savoir que mon café préféré d’hochelaga-maisonneuve soit présent dans la liste.

C’est cool que ça couvre quelques quartiers! Good job. Parcontre lorsque je me retrouves hors de la ville, je ne sais trop pas où trouver un café de qualité.
Y a-t’il quelqu’un avec des standards élevés qui a des suggestions pour la rive-sud?
